SEO on Google has always been treated like “first-class SEO” by most of the search engine optimization and marketing industry. But of late, Google has made a series of changes to its search algorithm and filters, including major ones like Panda and Penguin. At the same time, Microsoft’s Bing has made a serious dent in the market. Add the fact that Microsoft has now also acquired Yahoo search and have integrated the algorithms, their real market share has significantly moved up.
Google Or Bing
So, do SEO and Google still go hand-in-glove? If you are looking to hire a SEO services agency, should you look for a Google SEO services company with a lot of track record and credibility on Google? Or should you look for Microsoft Bing SEO services?
The ideal answer is, both. SEO optimization, Google and Bing alike, is great but obviously having the combined share of the market is the best. However, the two algorithms these days differ significantly. And also, by my experience as well as by what I hear from clients, the Google traffic is way more responsive to commercial sites compared to Bing. So SEO on Google makes sense from the monetary angle.
Absolute Market Share Values
Now, let us look at the absolute market shares rather than complicated break-ups. As of now, the market share of Google stands at 66.4%. That is, every 2 searches out of 3 are on Google. Bing, on the other hand, has been moving up but has reached only to around 15.9%. So for every 4 people searching on Google, it is just 1 person on Bing.
So the Google market size is still 4 times bigger than Bing, and with a higher percentage of buyers within that share. Now, let’s be fair to Microsoft and consider that Yahoo and Bing are now integrated to a good extent at the back end though the user interface does not tell it. But Yahoo search market share has been falling – it is down to 12.8%. So combiner, Yahoo and Bing have 28.7% – way less than half of Google’s market share.
Inferences
Clearly, SEO and Google cannot be separated from each other even today, going by numbers. Going by my own experience as well as what I get to hear from my clients on one-on-one communications, that tallies with the reality of commerce also. Google traffic still drives the significant majority of the search engine revenue stream – be it e-commerce, digital products, affiliate sites or advertisement driven sites. So yes, SEO on Google is still one of the most sensible actions to take for online presences of businesses.
