There are a number of people who try to evaluate SEO services companies by looking at the offers that they are making. And then, reading over some places on the Internet and trying to correlate to the offers that they have seen around, they try to correlate to their case. It is an extremely logical way to approach the process (as these people do), except that a lot remains unsaid in too many websites.
Having run what can be called a successful SEO service company for a time period that is closing on a decade now, I have seen no dearth of myths among newbie clients floating around. Here are the top three myths that I have seen.
Myth 1 – Any SEO services consultant is hiding the truth by not specifying the ranking date clearly:
The time taken to rank can only be approximated by a professional SEO services company, just like any other human being can also just approximately guess it. So simply don’t expect that any SEO consultant knows that “this website will come to the Google organic search first page for keyword ABC on 17th December 2012 and for XYZ on 29th December 2012”. No – they will guess that the page will be on Google’s first page “by the end of December” or “by early January”. It is almost impossible to be more accurate than that, unless the keyword is so easy that someone brain-dead can optimize it.
Myth 2 – Backlinks are the only real way to go forward:
Some SEO “professionals” (?) make a hype around this for the newbie to fall in their trap. And the newbie starts believing them because there are too many con artists practicing this. They do it because building backlinks is where their SEO company services can prove to be the most lucrative, so they have a monetary interest. But the reality is that you need to add social activities (even if simulated) and on-page SEO to really succeed.
Myth 3 – SEO companies are trying to rob the client out of money by offering monthly maintenance services:
This is an ugly myth. Your competitors are also vying for the same page with their experts, so why do you think they will be so stupid that if you stop working (albeit lightweight maintenance) they will not be able to catch you up? Of course, they will catch and thrash your site. So any professional SEO services company is right when they say that after you start ranking, you will be wise to add a lightweight monthly maintenance pack if you want to keep the ranks up.
I hope busting these myths will help you open your eyes and step into the world of SEO with a healthier mind frame.
