Search engine optimization, or SEO as it is called in short, is the art of optimizing your website for ranking high for search queries of targeted keywords. People who go to search engines like Google and type their search string see a set of websites being returned by Google on the first page of the search results. A good SEO activity would improve the rankings of your website to the first page for your chosen keywords, so that people get to see your webpage rather than webpages owned by others. And in the world of SEO Google stands as a behemoth.

A number of webmasters are often seen in confusion on whether they should invest in running SEO in-house or whether they will outsource the process to some Google SEO services company. Each of these approaches has its advantage and disadvantage.

To run SEO in-house, you need to take care of two major aspects. One is that you need to have a set of Google SEO tools that you will have to buy and maintain in-house, and many of them are expensive with recurring monthly charges. And the other point is that many of these tools require training and time to learn to use at their optimum potential – so unless you have a lot of time at hand and/or plan to train in-house staff, you are inevitably going to run into a hard wall.

However, if you do manage to overcome the above-mentioned learning barriers and have enough funds to cover the running cost in-house including the tools and employee expenses, then the control that you enjoy for your SEO activities is excellent when done in-house.

The other option is to outsource the process of optimizing your site to a reliable Google SEO service provider. This way, the learning curve – both in terms of time and effort – is completely eliminated. Also, since the SEO service provider will take care of paying for the tools, the upfront and recurring costs for those tools will be taken care of.

On the flip side, if you choose to move the SEO activity to a consultant service then the day-to-day control over the activities that you will enjoy will be limited. Of course, this may not even matter because at the end of the process you will look for the search engine rank for your website rather than trying to micro-manage.

Now that I have taken you through the pros and cons of each side of the coin, you need to assess your current situation and requirements, and then decide the path that you want to take.
