There have been times when I have been astounded with the misunderstanding that keeps spinning among innocent people who have been “taught SEO” by some gurus or some other biased SEO services vendor. One complaint that I have heard at least from five different clients in the last five months is on the lines that “you cannot do local SEO and rank your local business website on Google just by simulating organic SEO or natural backlink building”. Sorry, but I do not agree.
From my experience
My very experience tells me that one of the very best ways to rank both for local as well as non-local keywords is to simulate natural link building. A case study

Update
Till date, with usual rank maintenance services, the plumber is ranking within top-3 within his city in Virginia.
